PUBLIC WOODLAND
Many UK woodlands are open to the public with unrestricted public access. They may be owned by local authorities, private landowners, or the state owned Forestry Commission. They will all have common features, which make the visit a pleasant and interesting experience for walkers. There must be interesting trees, plenty of open space and glade, sunlight and possibly even water features, picnic area and car parking.
We are creating in 2007 two new public woodlands, one in Avon on an imposing site on one of the seven hills overlooking Bath (Primrose Hill Community Woodland - 10 hectares); the other in Gloucestershire
(The Scarr, Newent – 12 hectares) demonstrates different silvicultural systems and ways of making trees grow better. Both woodlands are being planted on previous intensively farmed agricultural land.
