NEW NATIVE WOODLAND

woods woodsThere is need for balanced woodland systems which are not monoculture of single species. The new native woodland concentrates on trees which became native here between the last ice age and the 16th century. Oak, ash, will usually predominate with wild cherry as a minor component and a good under-storey of native shrubs and minor trees. This form of planting is particularly favoured and is still supported by some grants, particularly where the site for planting can be identified as an original ancient woodland site.

woodsWe are managing 17 woodlands, totaling 97 hectares on a 40 year management system whereby the landowners can be sure that the trees will thrive to their optimum and not be neglected.
