RIVERBASIN / FLOODPLAIN DEFENSIVE

woods Climate change is certain to bring more intensive rainfall and lead to flash floods and unacceptable levels of flooding. This is already happening in the UK and elsewhere. Urbanisation, concrete and some form of intensive agriculture tend to make this worse. Trees have been shown to play a hugely important defensive role and slows flood development. Much of our UK population live in potential floodplains, and the science of river basin management and flood prevention is only just developing to create effective responses.
