Guelder Rose Viburnum Opulus

Guelder Rose Viburnum Opulus is a deciduous shrub.  Also known as the Snowball Tree, due to its frothy white flowers making a beautiful ornamental hedge. Producing beautiful orange autumn foliage colour together with heavy bunches of glutinous scarlet berries. The Guelder Rose Viburnum Opulus exceeds 4 metres in height but spreads widely. In spring it has tight clusters of strikingly white flowers. It's a British native species commonly found along woodland edges in lowland areas and used for countryside hedging. The hedge doesn't need much pruning once established. If maintaining the shape of the shrub remove a fifth of older and weaker growth after flowering, cutting stems right back to the base. In spring, add a mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant. For more hedging plants click here
