Full Description

The Cedar of Lebanon (Cedrus Libani) tree is a majestic evergreen tree, renowned for its historical and biblical significance. Once abundant in the wild, it has become rare, making it a valuable addition to any collection for conservation and heritage purposes. This magnificent tree can grow up to 40 meters (130 feet) tall, featuring a wide, tiered canopy with a distinct flat top. Its evergreen, scented needle-covered branches and large cones give it a prehistoric appearance.

Perfect for larger gardens, lawns, or parks, the Cedar of Lebanon provides ample shade in the summer months and thrives in full sunlight for uninhibited growth. It is particularly striking when planted in isolation, allowing its grandeur to shine. The oldest recorded specimen in Britain was planted in 1638 at Wilton House, adding a layer of historical intrigue to this exceptional tree. Ideal for those seeking a standout feature in their landscape, the Cedar of Lebanon is sure to be a focal point of beauty and heritage.

Aftercare

A giant of a tree that can grow up to 100ft tall with a spread of 60ft, the Cedar of Lebanon requires a special spot because, once planted it, does not take kindly to being transplanted.

Plant well away from your home in well drained soil and in full sun. The Cedar of Lebanon can handle both cold and warm conditions but thrives in a good hot summer, so plant in a sunny position.

After planting, keeping the soil consistently moist is crucial, especially during the initial establishment period. Water your Cedar of Lebanon once a week, allowing the top layer of soil to dry slightly between watering.

It is best to fertilise your Cedar of Lebanon from the end of winter through to the end of spring using all purpose, slow release fertiliser.

Once established, this tree is quite drought-tolerant, but it will benefit from watering during prolonged dry spells.

Does not require pruning unless any branches are damaged.
