Oak Trees (Quercus Robur) are renowned for their strength and durability, making them ideal for timber and landscaping. Thriving in heavier soils, they tolerate water-logging better than other varieties, and with proper care, they produce straight, knot-free wood. Known for their longevity, Oak trees can live for over a thousand years and grow to impressive sizes. For best results, pruning should be done when the tree is dormant, and major pruning on mature trees should be left to a qualified arborist. Perfect for creating a stunning landscape feature or harvesting high-quality timber.

Full Description
Oak Timber is renowned for its exceptional strength, durability, and timeless beauty, making it a highly sought-after material for construction, furniture, and flooring. Known for its versatility, Oak thrives best in heavier soils and can tolerate waterlogged conditions better than its close relative, the Sessile Oak. However, it’s important to note that light, gravelly soils can produce “shaky” timber, which is less desirable.
Oak trees have been highly valued by foresters for generations, especially when it comes to producing straight, knot-free timber. Proper early pruning is essential to ensure a healthy growth habit and quality wood. For optimal results, pruning should be done while the tree is dormant, typically between October and March, with a focus on removing dead or broken branches. Newly planted Oak trees should not be pruned unless absolutely necessary.
Oak trees are not just valuable for their timber; they also hold a strong presence in the landscape. With the potential to live for up to a thousand years, they can grow to impressive sizes, with trunks reaching over 375 cm in diameter. When it comes to caring for mature Oak trees, any significant pruning or maintenance should be performed by a qualified, registered arborist to ensure the health and longevity of the tree.
If you’re looking to add a majestic, long-lasting tree to your landscape or are interested in Oak for timber purposes, our range of Oak trees is perfect for creating both stunning features and practical, enduring results.
Aftercare
Pruning not necessary. Grows best on deep, moist, loamy soils but will tolerate most conditions.
