Full Description
The Golden Bean Tree may start off slow-growing, but within two years it will become a stunning focal point in any garden. Its large, pale green leaves emerge soft, transitioning to a beautiful butter-yellow hue that deepens slightly through summer, and returning to a rich golden-yellow in early autumn. While the leaves may occasionally scorch in hot summers, this doesn’t harm the tree.
With a naturally lower and well-proportioned crown compared to the green-leaved variety, the Golden Bean Tree can spread up to 4 meters wide. As it matures, it produces striking orchid-like flowers and, by early September, long seed pods up to 20 cm appear, initially green and then shifting to a reddish-brown. For best flowering and growth, it prefers a sunny position.
This elegant specimen tree reaches an eventual height of around 5 meters, making it ideal for smaller gardens and equally impressive in larger spaces. Although it leafs out later in the season, usually around early May, it is one of the first trees to shed its leaves in the Autumn.
Aftercare
This beautiful tree does not require much attention but remember to water very well in its first year after planting and also during any hot weather. Pruning can be done from November until early March. Requires a fairly sunny position.
