Mop Headed Sycamore (Acer Brilliantissimum)

Mop Headed Sycamore (Acer Brilliantissimum) This highly ornamental small, rounded deciduous sycamore tree is grafted and is superb for the small garden. Very popular for its salmon pink young foliage which turns yellow, before dark green, mottled with cream by summer.  Wide spreading.  the Mop Headed Sycamore boasts a perfect colourful display, beautiful foliage with winged red fruits in the autumn. As with all forms of the species Acer pseudoplatanus the greenish-yellow flowers which appear in April - May have little ornamental value - but they produce large quantities of pollen and nectar and are very popular with bees. Very easy to grow in a wide range of well-drained soils. They thrive in sun but with partial shade to protect the leaves from scorch. A sheltered area away from strong winds is preferred. Minimal pruning required. Prune wayward or crossing branches to maintain a healthy framework.  When dormant in the late winter/early spring. Some in the summer/autumn to prevent bleeding of sap. Mop Headed Sycamore (Acer Brilliantissimum) is a must have tree for the garden. For more Sycamores click here
